Matrix Activity

Use a matrix to solve your application problem. Show the initial matrix that you used to set up the problem and then show the solution. You may use your calculator to solve the matrix (you should know how to solve matrices with your calculator before the next test). Of course if you want to you can solve it by hand.

Pepe Le PewSelena receives $537.75 per year in simple interest from three investments totaling $8500. Part is invested at 5.15%, part at 6.05%, and the rest at 7.2%. There is $1500 more invested at 7.2% than at 5.15%. Find the amount invested at each rate.
Petunia PigA dietitian at Palos Community Hospital wants a patient to have a meal that has 78 grams of protein, 59 grams of carbohydrates, and 75 milligrams of vitamin A. The hospital food service tells the dietitian that the dinner for today is salmon steak, baked eggs and acorn squash. Each serving of salmon steak has 30 grams of protein, 20 grams of carbohydrates, and 2 milligrams of vitamin A. Each serving of baked eggs contains 15 grams of protein, 2 grams of carbohydrates, and 20 milligrams of vitamin A. Each serving of acorn squash contains 3 grams of protein, 25 grams of carbohydrates, and 32 milligrams of vitamin A. How many servings of each food should the dietian provide for the patient?
Porky PigA stable population of 35,000 birds lives on three islands. Each year 10% of the population on island A migrates to island B, 20% of the population on island B migrates to island C, and 5% of the population of birds on island C migrates to island A. Find the number of birds on each island if the population count on each island does not vary from year to year.
RoadrunnerIf f(x) = ax3 + bx + c, determine a, b, and c such that the graph of f passes through the points P(-3, -12), Q(-1, 22), and R(2, 13).
She DevilA woman paid $10 for 2 yards of white, 3 yards of blue, and 1 yard of red material. Later she needed more material and paid $3 for 1/3 yard of white, ½ of blue, and ½ yard of red. Find the price of each of the materials.
Speedy Gonzales  A man has $9000 invested, part at 4%, part at 5%, and the remainder in a business enterprise. One year the business lost 2% and the man's net income was $205. The next year the business paid 10% and he received altogether $565. Find how much he has invested in the business enterprise.
