Using Publisher Resources to Supplement Precalculus II

Location

Course Compass is located at: http://www.pearsonmylab.com/. You will need to login using the access code that came with your textbook. Our course id is: shears89354Click here if you are a new user and need registration and login instructions or click here if you are a returning user and you need instructions.  If you bought a used textbook and did not receive an access code you can go to the textbook website and request to purchase a code. If you took PreCalculus I last semester, you should still have access to Course Compass without paying additional fees. You just need to add this course to your account. My Math Lab is not required for this course, but if you already have access you might as well use this resource that you have already paid for with your textbook. You can get free tutoring for textbook related problems and see examples worked out in a step by step manner similar to your textbook homework problems. Some features of Course Compass only work in Internet Explorer.

Electronic Text

My Math Lab includes a complete electronic copy of your textbook. Thus if you are traveling and you do not want to carry your textbook around, you just need internet access to the Pearson site and you can view your textbook there. If you wish, you can purchase access to Course Compass instead of buying a hard copy of the textbook at significant savings.

Extra Help

Your textbook comes with access codes for free tutoring. If you bought a used textbook and did not receive the access code, you can purchase one at the textbook website if you wish. If you already have an access code that came with your book, please take advantage of this valuable resources. If you are working on a textbook problem and you are stuck, they can help you.

Video Lectures

You can buy the video lectures bundled with your textbook, but they are also available in My Math Lab. These lectures make a nice introduction to the material for each section of the book, but they are not very deep in their concepts. You should be on a high speed connection to use the lectures that are online. Of course if you are using the CD's bundled with your text, then you don't need to be connected to the internet to view the lectures.

Extra Practice

If you find that you needed help with a particular problem in the textbook and you want to see if you can now do it on your own, you can use My Math Lab to generate extra problems similar to the one you were struggling with. You can also receive guided help in My Math Lab as well as seeing some worked out problems.

Practice Tests

I already have many practice tests and exercises ready for you to use throughout this course, but if you find that for a particular unit you needed a lot of help getting through the practice exercises, that is a sign that you are not ready for the exam on that unit, since on the exam you will need to be able to solve problems without help. In that case you may want to do additional exercises to practice further before you take the exam. You can take practice tests in My Math Lab and even though these tests don't count in your grade, you may find the feedback you get from them useful in guiding your studies. You can take exams randomly generated by the software. The tests in My Math Lab are completely optional. I may look at your work on them just to see how I might be able to help you more, but I am in no way going to count them in your grade nor will I count it against you if you choose not to take these practice exams.
